As men, we like to keep sex simple. Sure, we might have some kinks, but as a rule, we don’t like involving a ton of toys, accessories and complex processes in our sex lives. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” is the average guy’s mantra when it comes to sex. And for the most part, it makes sense!

Sadly, in our quest for a simple, streamlined love life, we frequently overlook products and solutions that can EASILY improve our sexual performance, comfort, and health. A product many guys neglect far too often is lube. Lubricants are cheap, simple, and can greatly enhance sex and masturbation. They require minimal education to use and are compatible with any lifestyle. Most importantly, lube makes sex safer.

So why do some men choose to ignore lube? We believe it boils down to a lack of education. If guys knew how crucial lube is for great sex and masturbation, they’d order a bottle immediately. There are hundreds of articles on the web explaining the benefits of lube, so today, we’re choosing a different angle: What NOT using lube can lead to. At the risk of sounding alarmist, here are 7 ways sex is worse without lube:

Masturbation is more boring and painful

We’ve all heard those jokes about excessive masturbation causing calloused hands and beefy forearms. While choking your chicken too frequently won’t damage your hands or get you ripped, it can rip and tear the skin on your penis if you aren’t using sufficient lubrication. If explaining where the scars on your dick came from to a concerned date sounds embarrassing, you might consider integrating lube into your solo-sessions. Water and silicone-based lubes  rejuvenate the skin and reduce friction, providing natural pleasure that mimics vaginal sensations.

Dry sex can ruin the moment for your partner

Women have complicated bodies. Things get even more complicated when it comes to sex. When aroused, many women struggle with staying naturally lubricated before or during intercourse. Hormones, medication, alcohol, and stress are just a few factors that contribute to vaginal dryness. Dryness happens to every woman from time to time. It’s perfectly natural. But why let nature ruin a great moment? A few drops of water-based lube can solve the problem in a second and allow you to please your partner to the fullest. Without lube, you can look forward to frustrating, painful sex or awkward conversations (“it’s not your fault, I swear!”).

Lube-less anal sex is dangerous and stupid

Attempting anal sex without the proper lube is dangerous, painful, and downright stupid. For one, the rectum doesn’t self-lubricate like mouths and vaginas do, so penetrating the anus without lube can cause major damage. Second, it hurts. Really bad. Third, it’s harder to use condoms, which are essential for preventing STIs during anal sex.

You risk broken condoms and unwanted pregnancies

Although most condoms come lubricated, they tend to dry up pretty quick. Combine a dry condom with a partner who is having trouble staying wet during intercourse and the probability of your condom breaking increases exponentially.

You lose your erections too often

Oof. We’re going straight for the jugular, aren’t we? The reality is many guys struggle with erectile dysfunction from time to time. Just like occasional bouts of vaginal dryness are a natural element of womanhood, the occasional limp dick is a natural part of manhood. If condoms, medication, stress or a lack of sensitivity are causing your little guy to deflate during sex, lube can help straighten you out by reducing friction and increasing glide. Of course, you’re too cool for lube, so you’ll just have to deal with the embarrassment.

Foreplay is short-lived and exhausting

If you’re on the receiving end of oral sex, nothing is more distracting than sensing your partner’s discomfort and fatigue. How can you get off when her jaw hurts, her saliva is running dry and her face is going numb? What do you do when she starts complaining about exhaustion right before you climax? If you’re giving oral sex to your girl, you know it can be equally exhausting. Too bad you don’t have flavored lube to suck the work out of foreplay and make things more enjoyable for everyone involved. Sad!

It takes her ages to orgasm

Nothing feels better than satisfying your woman to completion; it’s the ultimate sexual conquest. Unfortunately, sex can be uncomfortable for many women. Maybe you’re on the larger side. Maybe her vagina is unusually sensitive. Whatever the reason, mild physical discomfort can prevent even the horniest woman from achieving an orgasm during sex. Lube is designed specifically to eliminate pain and discomfort during penetrative sex, but since it’s too much work to order a bottle online, I guess your partner will just have to cum another time.

At the end of the day, using the right lube for your lifestyle is inexpensive and easy; neglecting lube is costly and can lead to some difficult, awkward, and downright dangerous situations. If you want to ensure your sex is safe, fun and comfortable, we recommend doing more research and finding the right type for you.
